BubbleSeal

Description

BubbleSeals are security labels which integrate an inexpensive and novel seecurity feature known as BubbleTag. Unlike common verification features such as serial numbers and holograms that can eventually be reproduced, BubbleTag provides a unique fingerprint incapable of duplication - even by the manufacturer of BubbleSeal/Tag. BubbleSeal labels are used essentially for brand protection, identity, data security and authentication.

Applications

  • Wines & spirits
  • Cosmetics/pharmaceutical products
  • Original mechanical, electronic parts
  • Contracts & certificates
  • Art

Key Features

  • BubbleSeal allows authentication of product by visual or by an optical reader. Customers may access the datasheet by computer or handheld device (e.g. mobile phone or PDA)
  • A datamatrix block on the label provides machine readability even with low cost cameras.
  • BubbleSeal integrates the BubbleTag on a destructible foil, enforcing single use and provides evidence of tampering
  • Every BubbleSeal is individually registered to a database for verification

How does it work?

The bubbles are self-generated in a polymer substance. The bubble constellations are unique and impossible to reproduce. Probability of reproduction < 1/1080

How do you verify it?

The seals are able to be verified visually by referencing the serial number to an online database.

A machine readable data matrix code may be used to lessen the chance of human error.

This method of authentication is a comparison by eye and is accessible by anyone, even without specialised equipment.

Can it be automated?

For situations where authentication is to be automated to reduce chances of human error or to increase the authentication speed, a specialised reader may be used. The data matrix is read, images of the tag taken from various lighting angles, and the bubble arrangement is automatically compared with those on the database. Readers may come in the form of radio enabled handheld readers or hardware components specially integrated into the client's manufacturing process.

The BubbleSeal is the ultimate in security labels - mainly from the irreproducible bubble constellation known as the BubbleTag. Overt security features such as holograms may be duplicated by the factories who make the holograms themselves, and covert security features such as DNA ink or data dots require specialised equipment for verification.

The range of uses for the BubbleTag and BubbleSeals are limitless. Many industries can use them - and if integrity is an issue the tag constellations may be recorded and stored in your own database with the right equipment.

BubbleSeal may be used as a unique identifier and authentication method for ID cards by sticking the label on a printed ID card before lamination. See "BubbleCard" for a BubbleTag embedded printable card.

A big advantage of BubbleSeals over other authentication methods is anyone can verify the integrity of the BubbleSeal themselves with an internet connected device and a good eye.

For uses where human error may be an issue or the efficiency of verification by eye is not acceptable, standalone machine readers are available, or parts may be purchased and integrated into the customer's own system.
